MANILA, Philippines — There is a need to upskill and reskill Filipino workers to help them adapt to the rapidly changing technological and business landscape, according to Vice President Sara Duterte.

Speaking at a business forum organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) yesterday, Duterte said the country should equip the workforce with new skills amid job displacement in some sectors.

“By investing in workforce development, we can harness the power of technology to create a more effective and productive future while ensuring that employees are equipped to thrive in this new landscape,” she said.

The Vice President also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector to establish innovation centers and promote an environment that “encourages risk-taking and experimentation.”

Duterte underscored the need to innovate businesses by embracing digitalization and investing more in digital infrastructure to raise industry competitiveness here and abroad.

“We cannot deny the very crucial and important role of innovation in this age of digitalization. Digitalization has complemented our human resources in ensuring efficient operations and timely production and, of course, delivery of services and products,” she said.
