Another Remulla joins Marcos’ Cabinet
MANILA, Philippines — Long-time Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has joined the Cabinet of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., taking an oath of office as the new Interior secretary.
Remulla’s appointment came after Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for a Senate seat on October 7.
Due to his appointment, Remulla withdrew his reelection bid as Cavite governor. He is set to join his older brother, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, in Marcos’ Cabinet.
It could be recalled that in 2022, Jesus Crispin also dropped his previous post as the 7th district representative of Cavite to be the Marcos administration’s justice secretary. He has been the Justice chief since 2022.
Another sibling, Gilbert Remulla, serves as a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).
This marks Jonvic Remulla’s first national-level government post after serving as Cavite’s governor since 2010.
The DILG, which Remulla will now head, oversees several key agencies, including the Philippine National Police, and has authority over local government units across the country.
