MANILA, Philippines — Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla is reportedly in talks to replace outgoing Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos.
A report by One News said that Remulla is set to replace Abalos, who is running for senator under the administration’s senatorial slate.
The source said the announcement is set for Monday as Abalos will leave the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as soon as he files his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator.
Remulla, a two-term governor of Cavite province, has yet to confirm the report.
He told dzRH that he has yet to discuss the matter with President Marcos.
He is also seeking another term as the governor of the province as he has already filed his COC for the said post.
Remulla is yet to find a substitute if he gets appointed to the DILG.
If appointed, he will be the second Remulla handling an executive office under President Marcos as his brother, Jesus Crispin, is the current justice secretary.
Marcos earlier said he has already chosen the replacement for DILG chief, with two names supposedly shortlisted for the role.
The other person is former Davao representative Anton Lagdameo, who is currently serving as Special Assistant to the President.
