Marcos skips F1 Grand Prix in Singapore

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos did not attend the 2024 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix over the weekend, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said yesterday.

“He did not go to Singapore,” PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez told reporters when asked whether the President was in the city-state for the grand prix.

“Home with family, shoot the weekly vlog, review and signed some documents,” Chavez added.

Marcos attended the grand prix in 2023 upon the invitation of former Singaporean prime minister Lee Hsien Loong.

In an Instagram post in September last year, First Lady Liza Marcos defended the President’s attendance at the grand prix, saying the F1 race was all about networking with the world’s top government and business leaders.

In October 2022, Marcos was criticized over an unannounced travel to Singapore to watch the F1 Grand Prix as several provinces were still grappling with the aftermath of Super Typhoon Karding.
