MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority said that 90,017,181 Filipinos have already registered for the national ID program as of Sept. 19, achieving 97.8 percent of PSA’s 92 million target registrations.
“As we reach the last mile of registration, we will continue our pursuit to make national ID registration easy and accessible for all and make the national ID the top-of-mind valid proof of identity for Filipinos,” PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said.
Last week, PSA assistant national statistician Emily Pagador said the government is targeting to have the entire population registered with the national ID system by next year.
According to the last census conducted in 2020, the country’s population count was at 109 million.
While data collection for the census of the population continues in some areas, Mapa said the PSA has already started processing data.
“We are still on schedule to report the results of the census by end of the year,” he said.
In order to register those aged one to four, the PSA recently launched the Rehistro Bulilit campaign, which utilized mascots, colorful banners and tokens, as well as children’s videos to help children feel at ease during registration.
The PSA is also conducting mobile registration activities for those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
In addition, the PSA has partnered with various institutions to make it easier to register.
At the House of Representatives in Batasan Hills, Quezon City, officials and staff were able to register with the national ID system and seek assistance on other related concerns without leaving their work premises. The PSA also continues to welcome walk-ins at its registration centers.
