No classes, government work in NCR, CALABARZON today

MANILA, Philippines — Classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, as well as work in government offices in Metro Manila and CALABARZON remain suspended today due to expected rainfall from the monsoon-enhanced Tropical Storm Enteng, Malacañang announced yesterday.

“In view of the continuous rainfall brought about by the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Enteng, and to ensure the safety of the general public, work in government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region and Region 4A are hereby suspended on Sept. 3, 2024,” Memorandum Circular 63, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, said.

The order, however, does not cover those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness or response to disasters and calamities and/or the performance of other vital services.

“The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” the memo read.

Enteng was forecast to dump 50 to 100 millimeters of rain over Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila and the rest of Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region today.

As of 5 p.m. yesterday, Enteng was spotted over Quirino province after making landfall over Casiguran, Aurora, the state weather bureau said.

Yesterday, President Marcos directed concerned government agencies to issue class and work suspension during inclement weather as early as possible to ensure the safety of the public.

Aside from Metro Manila, local governments in Bataan, Angeles City and San Fernando in Pampanga have suspended classes in all levels, public and private.

In the Bicol region, classes were also suspended in all levels in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Naga City, Catanduanes, Claveria in Masbate, and areas in Sorsogon including Bulusan, Casiguran, Castilla, Donsol, Juban, Magallanes, Pilar, Santa Magdalena and Sorsogon City.

Aside from these, Sibalom in Antique, San Carlos and Talisay cities in Negros Occidental, Northern Samar and Kidapawan in North Cotabato have also suspended classes.

In La Union, classes in all levels, both public and private schools, and government work were suspended at 12:00 noon yesterday by Governor Rafy Ortega-David due to heavy rains.
