MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said it is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) in extreme Northern Luzon.

At a 4 p.m. briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the LPA was located 1,310 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

“There is still a low chance for the LPA to develop into a typhoon in the next 24 hours,” Torres said.

As for the southwest monsoon or habagat, Torres said it continues to affect the Visayas and Mindanao and will continue to bring rains in the area.

PAGASA said localized thunderstorms would affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
