MANILA, Philippines — Three successive phreatic events and volcanic smog were recorded at Taal Volcano on Friday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The eruption occurred at 7:15 p.m., 7:19 p.m. and 7:23 p.m. The bursts lasted five minutes.

Phivolcs said sulfur dioxide emissions reached 3,309 tons per day on Friday.

The voluminous emission of plumes that stood 2,100 meters tall that drifted to the southeast.

There were also three volcanic earthquakes on the same day.

State volcanologists said Taal remains under Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest.

It warned that entry into the permanent danger zone should continue to be prohibited as there are possible hazards that could occur.

This includes phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and expulsions of volcanic gas.
