MANILA, Philippines —  In light of the recent devastation caused by Super Typhoon Carina, benefactors have reached out to the Philstar Media Group to course their donations to its social arm, Operation Damayan.

Donations and pledges amounting to P258,500 were sent in yesterday from the following: Philippine Ambassador to the US Babe Romualdez, $1,000; LV-TGFHA, P150,000; and K.L., P50,000.

Ambassador Romualdez announced his donation during the gala night for Stargate People Asia’s ‘Men Who Matter’ Awards held at the
Manila Marriott Hotel, Pasay City. People Asia editor in chief Joanne Ramirez announced during the event that they were raising funds to help out those affected by the supertyphoon, and would turn over donations to STAR’s Operation Damayan.

One of this year’s awardees, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) chairman Alejandro Tengco, also pledged to support the fund drive even as he mentioned that PAGCOR had started distributing relief to affected areas yesterday. Another awardee, Chef Sau del Rosario, promised to flex his culinary skills for the relief drive, which Operation Damayan is targeting to conduct by next week.

Meanwhile, in line with the 38th anniversary celebration of The Philippine STAR on July 28, The STAR is dedicating this year’s music festival called the “Truth Festival 2024” to support Operation Damayan. All proceeds from tickets sales will directly benefit those who have been impacted by the supertyphoon.
