Power outages hit Metro Manila, nearby areas as Typhoon Carina intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — Meralco on Wednesday announced that several areas will experience power outages amid the onslaught of rains caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon. 

While Meralco did not specify if the power outages were caused by the inclement weather, they said that there was “an emergency line trouble.” 

Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon are currently experiencing heavy rains, with the state weather bureau PAGASA hoisting a red rainfall warning over several areas. 

Here are some barangays affected by Meralco’s power outage: 

Quezon City

  • Doña Imelda 
  • Santol 
  • Sto. Niño  

Meycauayan, Bulacan 

  • Caingin 
  • Lawa 
  • Tugatog 

Malabon 

  • Potrero 

Valenzuela 

  • Karuhatan 
  • Malinta 
  • Marulas 

Rodriguez, Rizal 

  • San Jose 

Meralco also advised its customers to report electrical hazards in their area, as well as shut off circuit breakers before floods enter their homes. Solar power systems should also be deactivated during thunderstorms.
