MANILA, Philippines — The number coding scheme in Metro Manila will not be enforced as of Tuesday afternoon due to inclement weather caused by Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi).

“Suspendido na ang pagpapatupad ng Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program ngayong araw, July 23, dahil sa patuloy na pag-ulan na dulot ng bagyong #CarinaPH at southwest monsoon,” the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.

("The implementation of the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program is suspended today, July 23, due to the continuous rainfall caused by Typhoon #CarinaPH and the Southwest Monsoon.)

The MMDA also suspended the operations of the Pasig River Ferry which travels from Pasig to Manila vice-versa.

According to PAGASA’s 11 a.m. bulletin, Carina and the southwest monsoon or habagat is expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall over various parts of western Luzon from Tuesday through Thursday.

The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over northern Taiwan between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
