Lawmaker believes 3 million jobs by 2028 achievable
MANILA, Philippines — The chair of the House committee on labor and employment yesterday expressed belief that the goal to create three million jobs before the term of President Marcos ends in 2028 is achievable.
According to panel chair and Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles, the latest Labor Force Survey on June 6 showed an increase in employment from April 2023 to the same period this year from 95.5 percent to 96 percent, with the number of employed Filipinos increasing to 48.46 million from 48.06 million.
The unemployment rate also slid to 4 percent from 4.5 percent last year, with the number of unemployed persons going down to 2.04 million from 2.26 million.
During the recent 2024 National Employment Summit, the President was optimistic that the implementation of the 10-year national employment master plan under Republic Act 11962 or the Trabaho Para sa Bayan (TPB) Act will help create three million new jobs by 2028.
“TBP is the key to reach our target. That’s why it is important for the whole government to work together to make sure that the provisions in this measure are carried out,” he added.
