MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday led the opening of the next phase of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli project in Manila.
The inauguration of the Pasig River Urban Development Showcase Area Phase 1C at Plaza Mexico, Magallanes Drive in Intramuros was also attended by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
It links the showcase area behind the Manila Central Post Office to Intramuros.
At least 32 stores are expected on the ground floor of the structure, according to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
The roof deck will connect to the pedestrian walkway and bike lane.
“After decades of neglect, let us witness the revitalization of our beloved Pasig River. A river that will look and feel like the famous waterways across the world… the Seine in Paris, the Thames in London, the Chao Phraya in Bangkok,” Marcos said.
Phases 1A and 1B were launched in January, featuring a 500-meter showcase area behind the post office.
In 2023, Marcos signed Executive Order 35, which called for the “rehabilitation of the Pasig River to its historically pristine condition conducive to transport, recreation and tourism.”
The project aims to reduce traffic by promoting water transportation through the Pasig Ferry System, an alternative method of commuting within Metro Manila.
