MANILA, Philippines — Former president Rodrigo Duterte’s loyalists and Chinese communists are allegedly colluding to oust President Marcos.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating the reported collusion, which came from social media posts being attributed to a retired military officer.
A destabilization plot is supposedly being hatched before the arrival of International Criminal Court investigators who are probing abuses committed during the Duterte administration’s bloody war against the illegal drug trade.
Vice President Sara Duterte would replace Marcos, as allegedly planned.
Sought for comment, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said they have not monitored any serious threat against the Marcos administration.
As a precaution, Fajardo said they would investigate the reported threat and coordinate with other agencies.
Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV revealed last month that active police officials are working with retired PNP officials and members of Duterte’s former Cabinet to destabilize the government and install the Vice President as the country’s next leader.
Rumors of ouster plots have existed even in previous administrations, Fajardo noted.
