MANILA, Philippines — Managers and professionals are among the occupations with the highest daily basic pay, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA’s Labor Force Survey showed managers had the highest average basic pay in April this year at P1,400 per day.
PSA defines managers as those who “plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the overall activities of enterprises, governments and other organizations, or of organizational units within them and formulate and review their policies, laws, rules and regulations.”
Professionals came in next with an average daily basic pay of P1,222.
The PSA said professionals are those who perform tasks conducting analysis and research, developing concepts, theories and operational methods and advising on or applying existing knowledge related to physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences and humanities.
Professionals also include those providing various business, legal and social services, as well as those creating and performing works of art.
Armed forces occupations placed third with an average basic wage of P1,208 per day.
These cover personnel currently serving in the armed forces, including auxiliary services, whether on a voluntary or compulsory basis but do not include police (other than military police), customs inspectors and members of border or other armed civilian services.
In fourth spot were technicians and associate professionals with an average daily basic pay of P792, followed by clerical support workers with an average basic wage of P728 per day.
Technicians and associate professionals are those who perform mostly technical and related tasks connected with research and the application of scientific or artistic concepts and operational methods and government or business regulations.
As for clerical workers, these are individuals who record, organize, store, compute and retrieve information and perform a number of clerical duties in connection with money-handling operations, travel arrangements, requests for information and appointments.
Meanwhile, elementary occupations had the lowest average daily basic pay in April at P403.
Elementary occupations involve the performance of simple and routine tasks requiring the use of hand-held tools like cleaning, restocking supplies and performing basic maintenance in apartments, houses, kitchens, hotels, offices and other buildings; washing cars and windows; helping in kitchens and other simple tasks in food preparation.
Other occupations with the lowest average basic pay per day are skilled agricultural forestry and fishery workers (P443), service and sales workers (P508), craft and related trades workers (P541) and plant and machine operators and assemblers (P554).
