MANILA, Philippines —  The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea Veterans Association Inc. (PVAI) commemorated yesterday the historic Battle of Yuldong that happened in South Korea 73 years ago.

Remembering the bravery of Filipino soldiers who fought during the Korean War, the military recalled how some 900 members of the 10th Battalion Combat Team were able to defeat tens of thousands of Chinese communists and North Korean soldiers in April 1951.

On Monday, the AFP joined in the commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of the Battle of Yuldong in a wreath-laying ceremony at the MariKorea Monument in Marikina.

Surviving members of the PVAI, along with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office and other stakeholders, gathered to remember and celebrate the victory.

The Philippine Navy also expressed pride over how Filipino soldiers, airmen and sailors “demonstrated prowess on the battlefield in the greatest defensive operation etched in the annals of Philippine military history” during the battle.

“Although outnumbered 10-to-1, the 900 strong 10th Battalion Combat Team withstood a massive attack of the Chinese 12th Army at Yultong Ridge, known today as the Battle of Yuldong,” a post from its official Facebook account read.
