19 vehicles damaged as fire hits NAIA-3 parking lot
MANILA, Philippines — Several parked vehicles at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 caught fire yesterday.
Grassfires due to extreme heat could have caused the incident that burned 19 vehicles in the parking lot extension around 1:28 p.m., according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
The fire was declared under control at 1:56 p.m. and doused at 2:03 p.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection said.
No injuries were reported and flight operations were unaffected.
Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of damage.
Some of MIAA’s fire trucks should be placed on standby and spray water on grassy portions of the airport to
prevent grassfires, some concerned officials told The STAR.
“MIAA has no liability on the incident,” said MIAA spokesman Chris Bendijo.
MIAA general manager Eric Ines said they would help affected vehicle owners talk to the parking concessionaire. — Nillicent Bautista
