Internet outage delays NAIA flights
MANILA, Philippines — Internet outage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 led to manual operations at check-in counters on Tuesday, with hundreds of passengers experiencing long lines and flight delays.
AirAsia Philippines’ system was unable to connect to the server, resulting in manual check-in processes since Tuesday at 2 a.m., according to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) spokesman Chris Bendijo.
The connectivity issue stemmed from AirAsia’s IT and telecommunications provider, SITA, encountering a problem with an internet service pole outside NAIA Terminal 3.
MIAA provided support in queue management to alleviate congestion and ensure passenger comfort.
AirAsia’s system has been restored and operations are back to normal.
Four flights were delayed.
On Monday, some domestic flights of Philippine Airlines also suffered from the same issue, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said.
Despite the delays, no flights were canceled, according to AirAsia and PAL.
