LRT, MRT to halt operations for Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines — Operations of several railways will be suspended during the Holy Week to pave way for its yearly maintenance activities.
This has been announced in separate statements by Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1), LRT line 2 (LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit-3.
LRT-1 said that its operations which run from Baclaran Station to Fernando Poe Jr. Station (formerly Roosevelt) will be temporarily halted from March 27 (Holy Wednesday) to March 31 (Easter Sunday).
The closure is necessary, according to the Light Rail Manila Corporation, to facilitate the annual preventive maintenance activities and mandatory testing related to the Alstom signaling system for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project.
LRT-2, which runs from Antipolo Station to Recto Station, on the other hand, will halt its operations from March 28 (Maundy Thursday) to March 31 (Easter Sunday).
However, it will trim its operations on Holy Wednesday, with the first train leaving at 5 a.m. and the last train leaving at 7 p.m.
MRT-3, which runs from North Avenue Station to Taft Ave. station, will also suspend its operations from March 28 (Maundy Thursday) to March 31 (Easter Sunday).
All railways will resume operations on April 1.
Earlier, the National Capital Region Police Office announced plans to deploy more than 11,300 police officers across Metro Manila starting March 25. This move aims to enhance public safety during the Holy Week.
During the Holy Week, Filipinos either return to their home provinces or conduct a “visita iglesia” or a pilgrimage to different churches in the Philippines.
