MANILA, Philippines — Light Rail Transit Line 1's (LRT-1) private operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) announced on Wednesday further progress on its Cavite Extension project, with its phase 1 already nearing completion.
With both civil and system works advancing at the mentioned pace, the corporation is optimistic that it will lead to a timely opening in the fourth quarter of 2024.

"We are optimistic about the progress achieved in the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 project," said LRMC President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Juan F. Alfonso on Wednesday.
"This significant milestone is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of our team and our contractors, all working together to make this project come to life connecting countless residents in the south of Metro Manila and nearby provinces."
The project's phase 1 is composed of five new stations currently in various stages of development:
- Redemptorist Station: 93.3%
- MIA Station: 93.5%
- Asia World Station: 83%
- Ninoy Aquino Station: 88%
- Dr. Santos Station: 94.1%
Dr. Santos Station has reportedly finished its staircase and louver installation, while MIA Station has recently completed its ceiling. The station is currently engaged in secondary steelwork.
Meanwhile, drainage works have already commenced at the Redemptorist Station with telecom installation activities at Dr. Santos and Redemptorist station already completed. Similar work has begun at the MIA and Asia World stations.
To ensure their compatibility and readiness for operations, the LRMC is conducting test runs of various generations of LRT-1 trains.
"The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is poised to significantly contribute to the nation’s economic growth and development by fostering improved connectivity between individuals and communities," Alfonso said.
"This vital infrastructure project that LRMC is spearheading will not only bridge physical distances but also act as a catalyst for economic activity, creating new opportunities for businesses, trade, and commerce to flourish."
The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1, upon completion, will extend the existing line by 6.2 kilometers, establishing a connection from Pasay's Baclaran Station to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.
The extension is projected to reduce travel time and benefit over 600,000 passengers daily.
The extension's phase, on the other hand, will link the LRT-1 to Cavite, expanding its reach through the Las Piñas, Zapote and Niog stations.
