MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has allocated P55 million to meet its target of screening three million women for cervical and breast cancer this year.

The amount will be downloaded to different Centers for Health Development nationwide to support the cancer screening campaign, according to Health Undersecretary Eric Tayag.

Meanwhile, three population-based cancer registry (PBCR) sites will be added this year in Metro Cebu, Bacolod and Davao.

There are currently two PBCR sites in Rizal and Manila.

“We want to make sure that we know how many have cancers and PBCRs have been with us for many years,” Tayag said during the recent National Cancer Summit at The Medical City in Ortigas, Pasig City.

PBCRs gather data on new cancer cases from several sources, including hospitals, death certificates and laboratory services.
