Zubiri to sign Quiboloy subpoena

Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri gave assurance yesterday that the Senate subpoena for Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) ministry founder Apollo Quiboloy to appear at a public hearing to answer accusations of rape and forced labor will be signed soon.

Zubiri explained that administrative work piled up amid the word war between the Senate and House of Representatives, including the subpoena for Quiboloy, who was supposed to appear at the public hearing of the Senate committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality chaired by Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

“I have been told by my staff that the issuance of the subpoena for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has been prepared and is now ready for my signature…but I will sign all these documents upon my return,” said the Senate President in a message to Senate reporters through Viber.

He noted that he was just in the Visayas for several engagements.

Hontiveros appealed to the Senate leadership to approve her subpoena that would compel Quiboloy to attend her committee investigation into the alleged abuses within the KOJC ministry.

Quiboloy maintained his innocence on the accusation.
