MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit the province of Batangas on Saturday afternoon, a seismic event felt even by residents from nearby areas such as the National Capital Region (NCR).
The rumbling was felt at around 4:04 p.m. on Saturday with an epicenter 13 kilometeres northwest of Tingloy, Batangas, according to Phivolcs.

Intensity IV (moderately strong)
- Balayan, Bauan, City of Calaca, Calatagan, Lemery, Mabini, San Luis, San Pascual, Taal, and Tingloy, Batangas
Intensity III (weak)
- Makati City
- Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Batangas City, Cuenca, Laurel, Lian, San Jose, and Tuy, Batangas
- Alfonso, Mendez-Nuñez, and City of Tagaytay, Cavite
- Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity II (slightly felt)
- Quezon City
- City of Lipa, Malvar, Nasugbu, City of Sto. Tomas, Talisay, and City of Tanauan, Batangas
- Silang, Cavite
- City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity I (scarcely perceptible)
- City of Manila
- Abra De Ilog, Occidental Mindoro
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Earthquake Intensity Scale is a measurement of how an earthquake is felt in a certain area.
Phivolcs earlier reported the incident to be a magnitude 4.6 earthquake but was later on adjusted to 4.9. Unlike the previous report, no damages are expected.
No aftershocks and threats of tsunami are seen arising from the incident.
