MANILA, Philippines — The shear-line induced landslides and flooding in CARAGA and Davao region left at least seven individuals dead and two others injured.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Friday reported that it has yet to verify the casualties in the affected region.

The shear line also affected 70,862 families or 270,206 individuals, with one barangay declaring a state of calamity, according to the OCD report.

Almost 15,000 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers due to the effects of the shear line while 21,870 are outside evacuation centers.

The shear line also affected roads in Caraga and Davao, with 11 of them non-passable. On the other hand, five areas experienced power interruptions.

Meanwhile, only one damaged house has been reported in both regions.

Due to the heavy rains and flood, six municipalities in the Davao Region have suspended classes while three municipalities declared work suspension.

In CARAGA, on the other hand, 13 local government units have declared class suspensions while one LGU declared work suspension.

A total of P6.5 million worth of aid has already been provided to the affected individuals in response to the inclement weather, according to the OCD.

PAGASA in its 4 a.m. bulletin reported that CARAGA and Davao Region may experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to shear line. Residents are advised of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains. — with reports from James Relativo
