DBM greenlights funding for 673 MSU faculty positions
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved an additional 673 permanent faculty positions across the nine campuses of Mindanao State University (MSU).
“I believe that this groundbreaking initiative will significantly boost the education sector’s productivity and effectiveness, delivering immense benefits to the Mindanao State University community,” DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said in a statement.
The MSU has seen exponential growth in student enrollments and expansion of academic programs for over three decades without receiving funding for new personnel.
The approved faculty positions were determined based on the recommended faculty-student ratio, with a total budget of P334.24 million.
The initial funding requirements for these new positions will be charged against the Personnel Services allotment available in each MSU campus.
Most of the positions will be accommodated by campuses in General Santos City (150 approved positions), Sulu (120) and Marawi City (108).
Pangandaman said additional funds can be requested by MSU if existing funds fall short, which would be drawn from the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund.
To expedite this, MSU is required to submit complete and accurate documentation.
