Number coding scheme lifted on November 20 due to transport strike
MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the number coding scheme for Monday, the traffic authority announced on Sunday.
The number coding has been lifted due to the transport strike which will start on Monday, November 20, and might last until November 23, according to the transport group PISTON.
“Paalala: planuhin ang biyahe. Kung hindi ito gaanong importante, mas mainam na ipagpaliban muna ito. Inaasahan ang mas mabigat na daloy ng trapiko dahil sa pansamantalang suspensiyon ng number coding scheme bukas,” the MMDA said in their advisory.

The transport group will stage a strike to express opposition against the looming Public Utility Vehicle consolidation. Under the consolidation, jeepneys and UV express need to consolidate into cooperatives or corporations before December 31.
PISTON said this will take the livelihood of operators and drivers.
“In the provisions that they have released, they said that we could still consolidate within six months. 12 months to 27 months. But the ultimate goal is to phaseout public transportation," PISTON spokesman Mody Floranda said in a press conference on November 15.
Universities and some local government units meanwhile either suspended in-person classes or shifted to online mode of instruction starting Monday. View the running walang pasok list here. — with reports from James Relativo
