Veteran journalist Rina Jimenez-David, 68
MANILA, Philippines — Veteran journalist Rina Jimenez-David passed away on Sunday morning due to an illness. She was 68.
“We are saddened to announce that our mother, the indefatigable Rina Jimenez-David, passed away this morning from an illness. Details on the novena to come,” her daughter Miya David confirmed in a Facebook post.
Friends and colleagues mourned her demise.
“We offer our thanks to a first cousin, Rina Jimenez-David, for leaving us with a bounty of stories and advocacies, the gift of laughter, friendship and family. She passed on earlier this morning. May we request a minute of prayer in her memory. Rest well, Rina,” Roland Pascual, Jimenez-David’s cousin, wrote in a separate post.
She was a columnist at the Philippine Daily Inquirer and was a known advocate for women’s health issues when she joined the newspaper in 1988.
Jimenez-David was also a former editor in The STAR.
She served as managing editor of a publication entitled, “In Search of Family” published in 2001.
Her book, “Women at Large” was a finalist in the Philippine National Book Awards in 1994.
Jimenez-David lived in Alaminos, Pangasinan and graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 1976.
She studied at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
