MANILA, Philippines — Ninety-two winning barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) candidates were not proclaimed and can’t assume posts because of pending disqualification complaints, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia reported yesterday.
The Comelec previously ordered the suspension of the proclamation of all candidates with pending disqualification cases.
Of the 253 BSKE candidates with pending disqualification cases, 92 won while 106 lost the elections.
Though they won in the polls, Garcia said those candidates cannot assume posts until their disqualification cases have been resolved.
As of October, the Comelec has formally filed disqualification complaints against 223 BSKE candidates for premature campaigning and 71 others for illegal campaigning.
The poll body previously issued show cause orders to 7,103 BSKE bets for premature campaigning and 1,371 SCO for illegal campaigning.
Comelec said even those who were proclaimed but found to have committed elections would not escape prosecution.
