MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Navy’s Naval Air Wing should surpass its limits in ensuring the country’s territorial integrity, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

“I would like to challenge you to try to surpass the limits that you have set for your unit,” AFP chief of staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said during the Naval Air Wing’s 76th founding anniversary.

“An aviator’s job is hard, especially when you will be flying for missions to ensure the territorial integrity of our country,” he added.

The Naval Air Wing is responsible for all maritime and aerial reconnaissance over maritime territories.

Meanwhile, the Navy inaugurated the Mavulis Naval Detachment at Mavulis Island in Itbayat, Batanes on Oct. 18, marking a significant milestone in efforts to enhance maritime security in the country’s northern region.

Sen. Francis Tolentino helped in the construction of the detachment.

“(The detachment) is poised to play a crucial role in safeguarding our nation’s waters and the protection of our maritime interests,” said Naval Forces Northern Luzon chief Commodore Francisco Tagamolila Jr.

“The recognition and activation of Naval Detachment Mavulis... symbolizes the commitment to uphold maritime law and order while safeguarding our maritime territories,” said Northern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca.
