MANILA, Philippines (Update 3: Oct. 15, 2023, 9:01 p.m.) — Some local government units (LGUs) and educational institutions have suspended face-to-face classes due to a transport strike scheduled on Monday.
Transport group Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees at Laborers (MANIBELA) said on Saturday that it will push through with its Monday strike against the consolidation deadline for traditional jeepneys.
Several schools have also declared their transition to online learning starting Monday, October 16.
Here's a list of LGUs and schools that have suspended classes for next week:
Calabarzon
- Biñan City, Laguna (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Cabuyao City, Laguna (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Calamba, Laguna (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Santa Rosa, Laguna (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- San Pablo City, Laguna (October 16) - All levels, public and private
Central Luzon
- Angeles City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Pampanga province (October 16 to 17) - All levels, public and private
National Capital Region
- Caloocan City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Las Piñas City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Marikina City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Parañaque City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
- Pasay City (October 16) - All levels, public and private
Schools
- Adamson University (October 16 to 17) - All levels are moving to synchronous online classes
- Ateneo de Manila University (October 16) - Undergraduate and graduate classes in the Schools of Education and Learning Design, Humanities, Management, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences will be conducted online.
- De La Salle University Manila and Laguna campuses (October 16) - Both classes and work will transition to an online mode.
- Far Eastern University Manila and Makati campuses (October 16) - On-site midterm consultations will be shifted to synchronous online sessions.
- FEU High School (October 16) - Classes will be conducted using the Canvas platform.
- Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila (October 16) - Face-to-face classes will transition to an online synchronous mode.
- Miriam College (October 16)
- Grade school will observe an iWork Day
- High school will implement a Home Study Day
- SDTEC will conduct online classes
- MC Nuvali will also observe a Home Study Day
- HEU will shift classes, OSA, and CMO activities to a virtual mode
- National University Manila (October 16) - Transition to synchronous learning
- National University Nazareth School (October 16) - Switch to synchronous learning
- Polytechnic University of the Philippines (October 16) - All branches and campuses will shift to online learning
- San Beda University Rizal and Manila campuses' Integrated Basic Education Department (October 16) - Transition to online classes.
- San Sebastian College Recoletos Manila (October 16) - Grade school and junior high school will transition to online synchronous mode.
- University of the East Caloocan and Manila campuses (October 16) - All, levels, shift to off-site synchronous learning
- University of Santo Tomas (October 16) - Adopt an Enriched Virtual Mode of Instruction with synchronous and asynchronous sessions, along with remote work arrangements.
