MANILA, Philippines — The suspect in the killing of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Marjorette Garcia in Saudi Arabia has been arrested, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

“As far as we were told by the embassy, the supposed perpetrator has been caught by law enforcement in Saudi Arabia and investigations are underway,” Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Paul Cortes said in a televised briefing yesterday.

Cortes added that the suspect is not Garcia’s employer, but possibly her coworker.

Garcia, 32, deployed as a domestic worker in 2021, was found dead with stab wounds over the weekend.

The Department of Migrant Workers is working for the immediate return of Garcia’s remains.

“We remain in contact with the family and will work with them on arrangements for the repatriation of OFW Marjorette Garcia’s remains,” the DMW said in a statement.
