MANILA, Philippines — The four hosts of One News’ “The Chiefs” have been named as Best TV Public Affairs Program Hosts at the 11th Professional Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Makatao Awards for Media Excellence.

News5 chief Luchi Cruz Valdes, The STAR editor-in-chief Ana Marie Pamintuan and fellow veteran journalists Ed Lingao and Roby Alampay received the recognition in ceremonies held at the Luzon Ballroom of Sofitel Philippines Plaza Manila in Pasay City yesterday afternoon.

Last year, “The Chiefs” won as Best Public Affairs Program.

Valdes, Pamintuan, Lingao and Alampay were among Cignal TV programs and news personalities recognized by the PMAP for its annual media awards.

This year, “Woman in Action,” also aired on One News, was chosen as Best Public Affairs Show. Show host Gretchen Ho received the award during yesterday’s event.

“Frontline Tonight” won this year’s award for Best Newscast. Lingao, one of the program’s hosts, accepted the award for News5.

PMAP also recognized other Kapatid (TV5) programs and personalities by nominating them in key categories.

The anchors of Cignal’s election program “Short Take” were nominated as best public affairs show hosts.

Lingao, Patrick Paez, Manny Mogato, Regina Hing and Jove Francisco were finalists together with “The Chiefs” hosts.

Cignal TV news anchors Cheryl Cosim and Jay Taruc were nominated as best newscasters.

The PMAP Makatao Awards honor various people and members of the mass media for their outstanding contributions to enhancing public understanding of the role and impact of good people management.

Before the awarding ceremonies, PMAP paid tribute to veteran broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez, who passed away last Tuesday. Journalists from GMA Network, led by Arnold Clavio and Atom Araullo, joined other media members from print, radio and TV in offering a prayer for “Baby Mike.”
