Enriquez a pillar in Phlilippines broadcasting – Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has expressed condolences over the passing of veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez.

“Enriquez (is) a pillar in our broadcasting industry. He dedicated his life to delivering unbiased news to the Filipino people,” Marcos posted on X, formerly Twitter, yesterday.

“Mike is one of the journalists whom we consider as partner in delivering truthful and unbiased news. His contribution to journalism is exceptional,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, a former journalist, said on Tuesday.

Enriquez passed away on Aug. 29. He was 71.

According to a GMA Network statement, Enriquez joined the broadcast industry in 1969 and became part of the network in 1995.

Tributes

Labor group Federation of Free Workers (FFW) offered condolences yesterday over the passing of Enriquez.

“His unique ability to connect with the ordinary Filipino through his innate punches and relatable communication style made him a household name across radio and television platforms, across the nation and worldwide,” the FFW said.

“Throughout his illustrious career, Mike showcased an unwavering dedication to the truth and a genuine passion for storytelling. He had a unique ability to capture the essence of every story, delivering news with both empathy and professionalism,” said Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.  – Mayen Jaymalin, Janvic Mateo
