Veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez, 71

MANILA, Philippines — GMA Network announced last night the passing of its broadcast personality Mike Enriquez, one of the anchors of its flagship newscast “24 Oras” and host of its public affairs program “Imbestigador.” He was 71.

The veteran Kapuso broadcaster, who had been in the industry for 54 years, underwent a kidney transplant in December 2021 and heart bypass surgery in 2018.

Enriquez also served as president of RGMA Network Inc. and GMA Network’s senior vice president and consultant for radio operations.

He also anchored dzBB’s “Super Balita sa Umaga” and “Saksi sa Dobol B.”

The broadcast journalist began his career in 1969 as a staff announcer in Manila Broadcasting Company. He joined GMA Network in 1995.

“The Board of Directors, management and employees of GMA Network Inc. deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Enriquez. His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all. We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved Kapuso,” GMA Network said in a statement.

Enriquez also worked for Radio Mindanao Network and FBS Radio Network and had active involvement in the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

He won numerous awards such as the KBP Golden Dove Award for Best Male Newscaster, Ka Doroy Valencia Broadcaster of the Year Award and Asian Television Awards for Best Newscaster in 1999, among others.

He taught broadcast management at his alma mater De La Salle University.
