MANILA, Philippines — Double pay awaits workers from the private sector who will report for work today.

In an advisory, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma reminded employers nationwide that workers who will render services during the regular holiday are entitled to 200 percent of their regular wage.

“For the first eight hours of work, workers shall receive 200 percent of their basic pay,” Laguesma said, adding that employees who render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.

He noted that employees who will not report for work must receive 100 percent of their wage for that day, provided they worked or were on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.

“When the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employees, they shall be entitled to holiday pay if they worked or were on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day,” he explained.

Those employees who will work on a regular holiday that also falls on their rest day, Laguesma said, shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent and another 30 percent of the hourly rate if they would do overtime work.
