MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed yesterday the second Filipino casualty in the devastating wildfires that swept through the Hawaiian island of Maui.

The Philippine consulate general in Honolulu identified the casualty as 76-year-old Rodolfo Rocutan of Lahaina.

The consulate said Rocutan renewed his passport at the consulate in 2022.

Consul General Emilio Fernandez said the consulate was checking reports that two more Filipinos possibly died in the wildfires.

The DFA confirmed on Friday that Alfredo Galinato, 79, a native of Ilocos who was a naturalized US citizen, died in the wildfires.

The wildfires killed more than 100 people and destroyed much of the city of Lahaina.
