Marcos: Pay attention to the power of language
MANILA, Philippines — Give importance to the national language, which binds the country together.
That was President Marcos’ message to Filipinos on the country’s celebration of “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” this month.
Marcos yesterday emphasized the significance of the national language not only as a means of communication but also in enriching the country’s culture.
“Let’s pay attention to the power of language not only in forming our minds and in communicating, but also in enriching our collective wisdom to every generation,” he said.
“Through the Filipino language, let’s tell the stories and experiences that will be the solid foundation of our development,” he said.
This year’s commemoration carries the theme “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Ingklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan (Filipino and native languages: language of peace, security, and inclusive implementation of social justice).”
The celebration highlights the importance of Philippine languages in promoting communication, understanding, unity and progress in the country.
The President also encouraged every citizen to show their burning love for the country by making the national language and culture important parts of the identity of every Filipino.
Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa is celebrated yearly in August by virtue of Proclamation 1041 signed in 1997.
