PNP files 69 cases over 990-kilo shabu haul

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed 69 cases against persons involved in the 990-kilogram shabu haul last year.

At a press conference on July 10, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said the cases were filed stemming from the conduct of the operation.

“All the administrative and criminal charges were filed. Also, with regards to the pilferage that was seen, it is included [in the cases filed] and there were some also filed at the Office of the Ombudsman’s military and other law enforcement offices and the National Police Commission,” Acorda told reporters.

In October last year, police confiscated 990 kilograms of shabu worth P6.7 billion at a lending firm in Tondo, Manila owned by dismissed anti-narcotics officer Rodolfo Mayo Jr. Some police officers were allegedly involved in the pilferage of the suspected illegal drugs. 

Meanwhile, Acorda said they already “have a story” on the source of the suspected shabu.

“We are still pursuing the other (leads) with regards to the source and what really happened,” he bared. “We have a story on that, through intelligence and admission of some of our personnel, but unfortunately, these cannot be used or publicly announced because they were not subject of affidavit yet.”

Acorda added that Special Investigation Task Group 990 has been terminated, following the completion of the probe group’s investigation.

“(The probe) became a PNP-Napolcom investigation,” he said.
