MANILA, Philippines — A mass in celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Piat, the venerated patroness of Cagayan Valley, will be held in Quezon City next month.
Following 50 years of tradition, devotees of the Nuestra Señora de Piat Foundation is inviting all pilgrims to participate in this year’s annual Eucharistic celebration scheduled at Sto. Domingo Church on Quezon Avenue on July 8 at 9 a.m.
The mass will be officiated by the Piat Shrine Rector Rev. Fr. Fredel Agatep, together with concelebrant Rev. Fr. Stephen Simangan.
The town of Piat in Cagayan Valley celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Piat every July 2, which the day the devotion began in 1604, when Spanish Dominican missionaries brought the life-sized image from Macau to the town of Lallo, then the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia in Cagayan Valley.
Our Lady of Piat, also known as Nuestra Senora de Visitacion, is permanently enshrined at the basilica in the hilltop town of Piat in Cagayan province.
By virtue of the decree by Saint John Paul II, the shrine of the Miraculous Virgin of Piat was elevated to a Basilica Minore on March 10, 1998.
The basilica, which overlooks the Cagayan River, is where devotees also gather annually to give thanks for blessings received.
Miracles have been attributed to her intercession, and the devotion to Our Lady of Piat continues to grow and spread to other parts of the country and the world.
The foundation is looking forward to seeing all pilgrims once again from the north and south of the country, especially those coming from nearby provinces.
