Wage board sets public hearing for Metro wage hike

MANILA, Philippines — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) is set to conduct a public hearing next week regarding the demand of workers for wage increase in Metro Manila.
A public notice issued by the RTWPB said the public hearing on minimum wage adjustment will be held on June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City.

Signed by RTWPB chair Sarah Buena Mirasol, the notice said all stakeholders are invited to attend the public hearing to give their inputs on the call to increase the minimum wage in Metro Manila.

“In this regard may we invite you to participate in the said public hearing to gather your opinions and insights concerning minimum wage that will serve as the Board’s valuable inputs in the coming wage review of the existing minimum wage in the National Capital Region (NCR),” Mirasol said.

The public hearing comes after separate consultations were held by the RTWPB-NCR with the workers’ and employees’ sectors.

The Kapatiran ng mga Unyon at Samahang Manggagawa filed a wage petition on Dec. 5, 2022 seeking a P100 wage increase in the NCR. The Unity for Wage Increase Now on March 21 also filed a wage petition for a P1,141 minimum wage in Metro Manila, where the current daily wage stands at P570.

The last wage hike approved by the NCR wage board was issued in May 2022 and took effect the next month.
