MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Chedeng is forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by tonight or early tomorrow morning but may boost the southwest monsoon and bring rains over many parts of the country.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Chedeng is expected to weaken today but will remain as a typhoon.

It will remain far from the Philippine landmass and may accelerate northeastward towards the strait of Japan as it leaves the Philippine area of responsibility.

Chedeng is forecast to bring moderate to rough seas over the seaboards of extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of mainland Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will bring occasional rains over the western portions of Luzon and the Visayas in the next few days.

The monsoon may also bring gusty conditions over the Ilocos Region, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Abra, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan and Northern Samar today.
