MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is seeking a mutually acceptable solution on the issue of overhauling the pension system of the military and other uniformed personnel (MUP).

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. is looking forward to a dialogue involving the issue on reforming the MUP pension system.

“What we want is a win-win solution,” Acorda told journalists on Monday. “I was told also that there will be dialogues with higher officials, so we will hear from them kung ano talaga yung direction nito.”

He said that on the part of the PNP, talks are ongoing to get the sentiments of retired and active police officers, who would be gathered by a technical working group.

Acorda stressed the importance of getting the inputs of police officers, especially those who have retired from the service.

“We are making dialogues with them and also (getting) the sentiments of those in active service,” he said.

The Department of Finance earlier said it would conduct a dialogue with the MUPs to explain the reform it is pushing for their pension system.

Acorda said they are looking at the release of service recognition incentives to police officers for fiscal year 2022, which are reportedly lower than the agreed amount.

“We are coordinating with other offices involved in this matter,” he said.
