MANILA, Philippines — A train passenger was rescued by authorities after the former allegedly jumped onto the tracks of the Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3 (MRT-3) — an incident which briefly interrupted the railway's services.

Northbound and southbound services between Shaw Blvd. Station and Taft Ave. Station were earlier halted shortly after noontime on Wednesday, only resuming full operations by 1:20 p.m.

"The unidentified female passenger who allegedly jumped onto the southbound tracks at MRT-3 Quezon Avenue Station has been rescued by Lifeline Arrows ambulance service personnel at around 12:54 p.m.," said MRT-3 officer-in-charge and Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino on Wednesday.

"Passenger was found alive and breathing, and was brought to East Avenue Medical Center."

The MRT-3 began implementing provisionary service at 12:03 p.m. after the incident occured at around 11:57 a.m. Affected passengers of the southbound train at Quezon Ave. Station were said to have been evacuated.

The incident occured just one day after the Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista announced President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s decision to "defer" the approval of fare hikes within the MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2.

"The MRT-3 management would like to apologize to the riding public for the service interruption and inconvenience caused by the incident," Aquino said.
