MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a low-pressure area outside the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to bring rains over some parts of the country today.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area was monitored 1,360 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 p.m. yesterday.
But PAGASA said it is not likely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
The low-pressure area is continuing to move westward and could enter the Philippine area of responsibility this afternoon or evening, it said.
The trough is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers over Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.
Localized thunderstorms will also bring isolated rainshowers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Cloudy skies with rains over parts of Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region due to the northeasterly surface wind flow are expected today, the weather bureau said.
It warned of possible flash floods and landslides during heavy rains.
Meanwhile, there could be light rains over Central Luzon and the rest of Northern Luzon due to the northeasterly surface wind flow but no significant impact is expected.
