Marcos promises homes for soldiers, police
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos vowed yesterday to provide soldiers and policemen decent shelters as part of the government’s efforts to address the housing backlog in the Philippines.
Marcos made the commitment during a meeting with military, police and housing officials at Malacañang, the Presidential Communications Office said.
“We have begun to craft the program for the housing of the uniformed personnel, the policemen and the military,” Marcos said.
“We are starting now to put together the system, wherein they can be included in the financing system not only with public banks but also with private banks for this,” he added.
According to Marcos, there is available land for the housing program and the government has to work on a scheme to persuade others to be involved.
“We have to develop the concepts further but I’m determined to provide the housing for our uniformed personnel. We will not stop until we’re able to do that.”
The meeting was attended by Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Andres Centino, Human Settlements Secretary Jose Acuzar and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla.
