US, Knowlege Channel partner for programs to help Filipino children read
MANILA, Philippines — The United States has partnered with Knowledge Channel, a local educational television channel, to broadcast programs that are aimed to improve the reading proficiency of kindergarten to third-grade students.
This comes at a time when the education sector in the Philippines is trying to catch up and recover all learning losses incurred over the pandemic. The Philippines was one of the last countries to resume full-time, in-person classes after over two years of distance learning, which many feared led to an education crisis.
"By bridging the video lessons to more audiences all over the country, we will be making a meaningful contribution to the efforts of schools, teachers, and parents all over the country who are working hard to enrich the learning of their students and children," KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez said.

The US, RTI International, and the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. signed the deal on March 10.
This allows learning materials developed by the United States Agency for International Development, Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines (ABC+) program implementing partner RTI, and the Department of Education to be aired beginning this week.
"We thank KCFI for its interest in our initiative and desire to promote learning and access to education, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalized children," USAID Philippines Deputy Mission Director Rebekah Eubanks said.
