MANILA, Philippines (Updated 1:59 p.m.) — Infectious diseases physician Eric Tayag has been named as a new undersecretary of the Department of Health.
DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire confirmed the appointment of Tayag as undersecretary. He has yet to assume his post.

“We are still discussing where we can assign him appropriately based on his capacity so he can help the department more,” Vergeire said in a briefing.
Tayag previously served as the director of the agency’s Knowledge Management and Information Service and as department spokesperson.

He is known for promoting DOH's campaigns through dancing.
Nearly five months since he assumed office, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr has yet to appoint a health secretary.
