Speaker: House posts record number of bills

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 427 measures have been processed by the House of Representatives before Congress adjourned last Sept. 28, the highest compared to those tackled in the 18th and 17th Congresses, according to Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In his First 100 Days of the House of Representatives Report, Romualdez said the chamber posted a “record number of measures processed” within 23 session days.

He said during the 18th and 17th Congress, 218 and 209 measures were tackled, respectively.

“I am happy to report to our people that on our first 100 days, your House of Representatives manifested unwavering commitment to pass pro-people measures, particularly those in support of the legislative agenda of our beloved President, Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr.,” he noted.

These measures include the P5.268-trillion national budget for 2023, “the most important legislative proposal Congress is tasked to tackle every year,” which was passed on third and final reading.

Data showed the House had passed, on third and final reading, 37 national bills representing a 106 percent increase over the 18 measures approved by the 18th Congress, and 517 percent increase compared to the six measures approved during the 17th Congress.

“Likewise, the House adopted 20 resolutions, approved 11 bills on second reading and reported out of 63 committee reports,” he added.

The House had also adopted a “concurrent resolution” supporting the 2022-2028 Medium Term Fiscal Framework of the national government.

Romualdez underscored there were 5,696 proposed bills filed by House members during this period, “showing clear passion and dedication to their constituents and their advocacies.”
