MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon is affecting parts of Luzon and the Visayas and this can be further enhanced as tropical cyclone Nanmadol is set to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Nanmadol is expected to enter the Philippine area tonight or early tomorrow morning and will be named Josie.

Once it enters, Josie will be the 10th tropical cyclone to visit the country this year.

The monsoon is currently affecting the western sections of Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog as well as the Visayas.

It will bring scattered rains over Aklan, Antique, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Zambales.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience rainshowers.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Nanmadol was spotted 1,945 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

It is forecast to remain far from the country’s landmass and will not directly affect the weather condition aside from enhancing the southwest monsoon.

The public has been advised to continue monitoring updates for the typhoon.
