No new immigration chief yet – Palace
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has yet to appoint a new chief of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles clarified yesterday.
“No appointment has yet been made to the position of Immigration Commissioner,” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.
“We have confirmed with the Presidential Management Staff – which conducts complete staff work on such issuance – that no document for the said position has been issued,” she said.
Angeles made the clarification following reports that lawyer Abraham Espejo Jr. has been appointed BI commissioner.
According to reports, Espejo is a former dean of the College of Law of the New Era University.
He also reportedly served as lawyer of former president Joseph Estrada and Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos when the latter was chairman of the Commission on Elections.
